Charity Events
Poplar Nurseries is delighted to run regular charity events. We hold annual Christmas Charity Nights and bi-annual Summer Charity Evenings.
The Christmas Charity Night for 2012 was held on Thursday 29th November and as usual was a huge success raising a grand total of £3000, which was divided equally between our two chosen charities giving £1500 to Essex Air Ambulance and another £1500 to The Cancer Units at Colchester Hospital. An additional £350 was raised for the Cancer Units at Colchester Hospital by the Poplar Gardening Club from holding raffles at their Summer & Christmas Socials.
In 2012 Poplar also held a Summer Charity Evening which raised £3186.28p. This was divided as follows:
Essex Air Ambulance £1593.14p
Add donation from Mr Rumsey to above of £133 (winnings from 50/50 raffle)
Total to Essex Air Ambulance £1726.14
Total to the Motor Neurone Disease Association £1593.14p
Each year we also support local charities with donations.
Donations so far in 2013 have included:
Poplar Nurseries gift vouchers to:
- The Rotary Club of Colchester Trinity.
- Fundraising Gala for Macmillan Cancer Support.
Other donations so far in 2013:
- £230 to Marie Curie Cancer Care from the sale of potted 'Tete a tete' daffodils.
- A barbeque & cover to Colchester Rugby Football Club for their Dinner & Auction of Promises.

- Friends of Earls Colne Primary School & Nursery.
- St. Andrew's C of E Primary School, Marks Tey.
- The NFU (National Farmers Union), for their Centenary Dinner.

- Plants for the Colchester League of Hospital & Community Friends Plant Sale.
- Flower baskets to the Colne Engaine 2012 Festival.
- Sponsorship to the Coggeshall Open Gardens Day.
- Planters to the Great Tey & Little Tey Fete.
- Sponsorship to Colchester Rugby Football Club.
- Sponsorship of the Cancer Research UK Race Night at Witham Town FC.
- A Christmas tree for the 1st Marks Tey Scout Group for their annual Christmas float.

- The British Heat Foundation.
- The Rotary Club of Colchester Trinity for their Charity Annual Sporting Dinner in aid of N.S.P.C.C., Colchester Korban Project and other Rotary Charities.
- Hamilton Primary School, Colchester the their annual fundraising quiz to boost school income.
- Help for Heroes.
- The Stanway School, Colchester for their ‘C2 Supper’ in aid of The Teenage Cancer Trust.
- The Royal British Legion for their 90th Anniversary Family Day, Sunday 5th June at Weston Homes Community Stadium.
- The Mount Bures Flower Festival, 18th & 19th June.
- St. John's C of E Primary School.
- Holly Corner Montessori Kindergarten, Colchester.

- A selection of fruit and vegetable seeds & plants to Caterpillars Pre-School, Colchester for their ‘community dig’ morning at their garden area at the side of St Andrew’s church hall.
- A houseplant raffle prize for the Midsummer Dinner at The Barn Brasserie Great Tey in aid of Beacon House.
- A pot plant raffle prize to Marks Tey Football Club for their Summer Fete.
- A planter to Lexden Springs School for their Summer Fayre.
- Selections of plants to St. Helena Hospice for the Pixie Cottage Weekend.
