Restaurant in Colchester, Essex

Our Poplar restaurant seats up to 228 (144 inside, 22 outside and 62 in our conservatory). It includes a conservatory overlooking the play area, gardens and Poplar miniature railway, making it a beautiful spot to enjoy a meal or a quick cup of coffee all year round. We serve breakfast Monday to Saturday from 8:30am (9.30am on Sundays) until 11:30am, lunch from 11:30am Monday to Sunday and a delicious range of homemade cakes, scones and cream teas throughout the day. Hot food is served until 4:00pm Monday to Saturday and coffee cake served until 4:30pm. On Sundays last food order is at 3.00pm and coffee and cake is served up until 3.30pm when the restaurant closes. 

Our menu changes seasonally, offering a wide selection of homemade favourites using local produce. Our chefs also create daily specials, allowing them to offer you some exciting new dishes to try. Our exquisite cakes, made on site, are also available to order whole and with over two hundred different cakes to choose from, this is an opportunity not to be missed! (Please note that 24 hour notice is required.)


Our spacious restaurant is perfect for club meets, from a quick coffee stop to a sit-down lunch. We will accommodate and adapt our menus for any visit you may require. You can book a table in our restaurant, but bookings for the same day need to be made before 11:00am and Afternoon Tea bookings must be at least one day in advance.   We can cater for mid-morning groups, early lunches and afternoon teas.  Please do not hesitate to contact us with any questions or queries on 01206 210374.

How to order: 

Find yourself a table. (Please refrain from sitting at a dirty table as they need to be sanitised between each customer.)

Take note of your table number and go to the tills to place and pay for your order.  

Finally, sit back and relax while we get it all ready and deliver it to your table.  

Please note that booking is not necessary as we do also have a set number of tables for walk-in customers. 

Please note that the restaurant does not take bookings on Bank Holiday days.
