Why Cacti?

Are you wanting to bring some more life into your home, but you’re not sure where to start? It’s been proven that introducing plants into your space can help reduce stress, improve your concentration and productivity and boost your overall mood.

If you are new to the world of plants and are doubtful about being able to keep your new green friends alive and well, then starting off with a cactus or succulent is a great option for you. They’re easy to care for, they look great (especially in groups) and they even absorb toxins from your environment, leaving you with fresh, clean air throughout your home.

Do Cacti Need Light?

Cacti are very low maintenance houseplants, which is what makes them so perfect for beginners. With many originating from desert climates, all they require location-wise is a nice windowsill with lots of sunlight coming through. Be careful though, because even cacti can have too much sun, so let them cool down away from the rays if you notice they start to yellow or brown.

How Often do you Water a Cactus?

The amount of water a cactus requires will vary depending on the season. For most, watering every 10 to 14 days during growing season (around March to September time) is plenty to keep your plant thriving. During the winter season, water approximately every two months to encourage them to flower the following season.  Before giving your cactus a drink of water, be sure to check the soil for moisture to avoid overwatering them.

Do Cacti Need Feeding?

Cacti do not need feeding during the winter, but they will benefit from a cacti and succulent specific feed once a month during their growing season. We recommend trying Cactus Focus, which you can find at our garden centre.
