Bishop Nick Brewery, Sacred Ales Of Essex
Saturday 11th June 2022, 11am - 3pm
The story of the six generations of Ridley Brewing can be traced all the way back to Nicholas Ridley who was born in 1500. He dedicated his life to the church, but sadly his questioning of the Pope’s supremacy over the Kingdom of England led to his imprisonment in the Tower Of London and his eventual death as a Martyr in 1555.
Almost 300 years later in 1842 Thomas Dixon Ridley built his brewery on the banks of the River Chelmer. Six generations of Ridleys saw the best local brews to the people of Essex until the brewery was sold in 2005. In 2011 Nelion Ridley took up the mantle establishing Bishop Nick Ltd in Ridley heartland - Felsted, Essex. Nelion expanded and moved the brewery to Braintree in 2013 still using the rich heritage of traditional brewing and Ridley traditions using local ingredients to produce a range of high quality and distinctive real ales for today’s discerning drinker.
Pumphouse Brewery
Sunday 12th June 2022, 11am - 3pm
Pumphouse Community Brewery was founded as a not-for-profit micro brewery in Toppesfield, North Essex in 2015 and began production in 2016. Run by volunteers and owned by 100 community shareholders the Pumphouse brews high quality traditional real ales and produces a core range of beers with seasonal specials such as thier Jubilee Ale. They help the sustainability of rural pubs, not least the Toppesfield Green Man supplying excellent value ales, on draught and in bottles and also supply bottled beers to private customers and discriminating retail outlets.
Pumphouse Brewery operates regionally with low beer miles and strong environmental responsibility. They provide employment and volunteering opportunities combating rural isolation.
