Open Gardens 2022
Visiting local Open Gardens is a lovely way to spend an afternoon and can often give us plenty of ideas and inspiration for our own gardens. Time spent chatting to fellow gardeners who are usually eager to share their knowledge with others can be invaluable and most are happy to pass on their favourite tips and tricks for the perfect blooms or vegetable crops. Many gardens sell plants and some offer refreshments along the way.
After a long two years of cancelled events around the country we are pleased to be able to share some of the beautiful Open Gardens to visit during 2022:

Chappel & Wakes Colne Open Gardens

Take the A1124 from Colchester/London A12. Pass under the viaduct and the Village Hall is approximately 150 yards on the right-hand sidce.
11am - 5pm
Adults £5, accompanied children free.
The gardens vary in size and style ranging from wild to traditionally planted areas.
Scheduled walks around 'the Outback', a major re-wilding project at Jordan's Farm, two gardens that participate in the National Gardens Scheme and a farm garden which houses the Munday-Sayer working observatory. Pretty formal and informal village gardens to be enjoyed against the backdrop of the Chappel Viaduct, a Victorian engineering wonder and considered to be one the the seven man made wonders of the East of England.
Refreshments and delicious cakes available at the Village Hall.

Tickets available on the day from the Village Hall, Colchester Road, or in advance from Wakes Colne Village Stores.
Tickets are available from 10.30am, so you can browse around and have a cuppa before you start.
West Bergholt Open Gardens
West Bergholt, north west of Colchester, Essex

On the A1508 Bergholt Road/Colchester Road, between Colchester and Bures. Ample parking at Orpen Hall and on larger roads in the village as well as at some of the gardens.

Gardens of various sizes and types with allotments, feed the donkeys and Annie Mation performing a North West Clog Morris Dancing Group.
Refreshments available.

Brightlingsea Open Gardens

Brightlingsea Open Gardens weekend is always a large event in the town's calendar attracting visitors from far and wide. Wonderful gardens of all sizes will be open, some reflecting the sea by which we live.
Approximately 30 gardens open.

A large community garden, Springmead, will be selling lunches prepared on-site by the Hospice Support Group.
All proceeds to St. Helena Hospice in Colchester.

Great Easton Open Gardens
Great Easton, Dunmow, Essex
Sunday 26th June 2022
The village is approximately 20 minutes from the city of Chelmsford. Turn left at the PA Woods Rolls Royce garage if arriving from Great Dunmow and right at the same garage if arriving from Saffron Walden. 100 yards down past the church is the Village Hall on your right. Turn right here for parking - it will be clearly signed. The Village Hall is on The Endway, Great Easton.
11am - 5pm
£5 per adult, accompanied under 10's free.
Situated in a charming village on the boulder clay region sandwiched between Saffron Walden and Thaxted to the North and Great Dunmow to the South..
Several new gardens to visit this year as well as some previously seen, both large and small, most of which have wonderful views across open fields and the Chelmer river valley..
Cakes, snacks, teas and coffees and a small number of light lunches available.
15th century pub will be open.
Well behaved dogs on leads allowed.
All proceeds to a local charity and the Village Community Association.

Aldham Open Gardens
Aldham, west of Colchester, Essex

A range of interesting gardens including large, medium and small gardens will be open.
Art exhibition in the church.
Free minibus will ferry people around the village. (Stops are shown in the event passport.)

All proceeds raised will go to The Friends Of Aldham Church (for the maintenance of the church fabric) and to the Aldham Village Hall. .
