Christmas is arriving at Poplar Nurseries once again, and our team has been working behind the scenes for months to create a festive shopping experience full of inspiration, seasonal displays, and plenty of Christmas magic. If you’ve visited us before, you’ll know we have some of the best Christmas displays in Colchester (even if we say so ourselves)!

Whether you're an organised festive planner or someone who prefers to leave Christmas until later in the year, our Christmas Department will soon be ready to welcome visitors looking for decorations, gift ideas, festive inspiration and much more. Though a word of wisdom from the team - ‘if you love it, buy it because some stock lines carry limited quantities’.

When does Poplar Nurseries Christmas Department open?

Our Christmas Department officially opens on Saturday 26th at 8:30am. You can find our Christmas opening hours HERE!

You can expect to discover dazzling displays, twinkling lights and inspiring Christmas decorations throughout the showroom. Every year, the team works hard to transform the space from our furniture showroom into a festive area packed full of Christmas goodies.

What are the themes this year?

This year in the Poplar Nurseries Christmas Department, we've worked hard to create clearly defined and easy-to-shop, themed areas. From lighter, more neutral displays that perfectly complement natural interiors, through to deeper, more sumptuous colour palettes that are proving incredibly popular in homes right now, there's something for every style.

There's also a brand new dedicated Children's Department, bringing together toys, decorations and festive fun for our younger visitors. By creating distinct areas throughout the shop, we've made it easier than ever to browse, find inspiration and discover the perfect decorations for your home.

But it's not all about the kids! With novelty decorations and products now grouped within their own dedicated section, we've been able to create a more sophisticated feel throughout the rest of the department. We have also created more ‘creative ideas’ within the department which will be easy for visitors to replicate from home.

We don’t want to give too much away though, so it’s probably best you come down and see for yourself!

What Can You Expect to Find in the Christmas Department?

Rather than us trying to describe it, we thought we'd let our team do the talking...

Patrick, gleefully, but with slight frustration over the amount of boxes everywhere, says that ‘this is going to be the best Christmas ever!’

When asked for words about this years Christmas at Poplar Nurseries (and asked to avoid negative words) Claire said instantly

‘It’s Christmas, how could you be negative!’

‘It’s so magical and I can’t wait to watch people come in, gasp and say wowwwwwww’

‘We’ve got a really good team here and its been a lot of fun setting it up with them. I agree with Patrick. I absolutely agree. ITs got the wow factor.’

Megan has loved watching everything come together over the past few weeks

‘it’s been really nice walking it after days off to see the transformation. It’s all come together really quickly. It’s looking brilliant.’

All of the team have expressed excitement for seeing the floor clear again though. Currently there’s chaotic boxes everywhere , but we simply must make sure everything looks perfect for 26th September.

Why do garden centres start Christmas so early?

With such a large Christmas Department here at Poplar Nurseries, we start our preparation all the way back in January! From the trade shows through to the final product, it really is a huge part of the Poplar year! Whilst September feels very early (we completely agree), our motto is ‘we’re prepared now, so you can be prepared when you need it’. Don’t worry though, the Christmas songs in the department won’t start until November, so you won’t fail Whamageddon if you visit us before then…

It’s September - I don’t want to think about Christmas until at least November!

We hear this every year! If Christmas isn't on the books for you yet, don't worry. We’re not expecting you to put the tree up tomorrow. However, many of our customers love getting inspiration early, spreading the cost of festive purchases, or securing decorations before popular lines sell out.
