Blackberry bushes are usually trained along fences or wall, but compact, thornless varieties are also available for container growing. They will be most productive in a sunny, sheltered site, but can tolerate light shade. Plant in moisture-retentive, free-draining soil.
Blackberries are best picked as soon as they are ripe from mid-summer onwards. Eat fresh or freeze to use in jams and jellies.
