We are very proud of our Head Chef Richard A’Len who ran the Brighton Marathon on Sunday 15th April to raise funds for the Alzheimer’s Society in memory of his late grandad Norman Wheatley.
“Just to say a massive thank you to everyone that donated. It really means a lot having your support. The marathon is done. My time was 4h 57 mins. Thank you for helping me raise over £1700. It’s an amazing amount. Thank you again.”
Richard’s grandad, the late Norman Wheatley.
“After losing a massive part of my life (my grandad) to this horrible illness earlier this year I want to help find a way to stop this horrible illness for people in the future. It really was heart breaking seeing such a strong man ending up how he was and is something I will never forget. Please help me hit my target. The hard work starts for me now to get ready to run a marathon.”
Richard’s journey began approximately fifteen months ago when he joined the Man V Fat Football league. This together with a complete change of eating habits has helped Richard to lose just over five stone in approximately fifteen months. Richard began by cutting out carbs and now prepares all his food from fresh ingredients using lean meat and fresh vegetables. He has cut out all processed food (anything from packets), sugary drinks and alcohol and drinks lots of water.
Richard is now part way through a sixteen week training programme for the Brighton Marathon. He recently completed a half marathon in an impressive two hours and fifteen minutes. The maximum they can run on these training sessions is twenty miles and apparently the adrenaline starts to kick in for the last few miles to keep you going during the actual event!
Poplar Nurseries are pleased to support Richard for his marathon and will sponsor him for £500. We will let you know how he gets on. In the meantime, anyone wishing to sponsor him can do so by following the link below to his Just Giving page:
